Obesity oddities

Reading through the August issue of Health Club Management, I came across some mixed news on the obesity front:

• The American Medical Association has voted to declare obesity a disease, making diagnosis and treatment a physician’s professional obligation.

• Americans have become more active over the last decade, but obesity rates for adults fell in just 9 of 3,007 US counties between 2001 and 2009.

• Yet American life expectancy rose from 75.2 years in 1990 to 78.2 years in 2010.
