September slowdown in acquisitions
Just 25 food and drink transactions were recorded on the bevblog.net database for September, well below the monthly average.
There were, however, three major deals – all at around $2,000 million:
• $2,100 million for Japan’s Suntory purchase of the Lucozade and Ribena brands from UK based GlaxoSmithKline
• $1,995 million for Packaging Corporation of America to buy US based Boise
• $1,860 million for Mexico’s Coca-Cola Femsa to acquire Brazilian Coca-Cola bottler Spaipa.
Of the 25, 6 were in soft drinks, 5 in alcohol, 3 in ingredients and 2 each in dairy, equipment, hot drinks, meat and packaging.
17 countries were involved. The United States participated in 9, the United Kingdom in 7 and Germany was next on 3.
