Spring Water Registration
Despite requests from the spring water industry, the UK government has refused to implement a system for the registration of spring water sources, as exists in other EU member states such as France.
Bottled water consultants Zenith International are responding to industry demand and setting up a spring water registration system for the UK. Duncan Finlayson, Director of Zenith International comments "Whilst registration is of course voluntary, it is expected that this system will soon become the de-facto register for all spring waters in the UK."
He adds "We are sure that regulators will use the list, which will be one of the main benefits to producers, preventing labelling clashes, duplicate spring names and passing off. The existence of a public register should also give consumers confidence".
All spring waters sold in the UK are invited to join the register, including locally produced and imported spring waters and spring water used as a constituent in flavoured soft drinks.
Copies of the list will disseminated to regulators and industry bodies such as LACOTS, Trading Standards Officers, Food Standards Agency, BSDA, BWCA, etc and be available free of charge from Zenith. The list will also be displayed on a website page and Zenith will arrange a free link to registered companies' websites.
