Tea is world's most popular drink, bottled water is fastest growing
Global drinks consumption is rising by 2.5% a year, according to the newly updated globaldrinks.com online database from leading drinks consultancy Zenith International. Total volume reached 1.27 trillion (million million) litres in 2001, equivalent to 207 litres per person.
www.globaldrinks.com contains over 50,000 individual market figures and provides a detailed picture of 14 beverage categories across 75 profiled countries and seven continental regions. Analysis covers all hot drinks, milk drinks, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks with forecasts up to 2006.
"globaldrinks.com offers a comprehensive and flexible approach to examining commercial beverage consumption around the world, providing endless insights into local and regional market dynamics," stated Zenith Research Director Gary Roethenbaugh. "This user friendly database not only allows subscribers to gain an historic understanding of trends but also enables them to identify opportunities in countries that, for example, demonstrate strong growth potential."
Amongst the latest findings displayed on globaldrinks.com:
Asia/Australasia has the highest regional share of world consumption, with 32% of total volume in 2001.
Tea is the world's most popular drink at 54 litres per person, followed by carbonates and milk.
Bottled water is the fastest growing market, accounting for 35% of overall volume growth from 1996 to 2001.
East Europe is forecast to achieve the greatest future growth in total beverage consumption, by over 50 litres per person between 2001 and 2006.
Zenith’s globaldrinks.com database anticipates that total world consumption will reach 1.44 trillion litres in 2006, a continuing annual growth rate of 2.5%. "With the performance of bottled water showing no sign of weakening, soft drinks will once again be the driving force behind future global beverage market growth," concluded Gary Roethenbaugh.
